Product configurators

Opening

A configurator is a small application. Your customer picks a color, a material, a size, a feature. And sees the result in real time. If the product is premium, customizable, or complex enough that a photograph can't convey it, a configurator is the single most-impactful investment you can make for your product page.

We've built them for fashion, footwear, cosmetics, industrial equipment, and agricultural machinery. Same underlying engine. Different product, different buyer, different integration.

What a configurator does for your product page

Three things, roughly in this order:

  1. It converts. Customers who reach a configurator convert at meaningfully higher rates than customers who stare at a gallery of photos. (We can show you the industry benchmarks during our call; we don't cite them on the site because the lift varies by vertical.)
  2. It captures intent. A configured cart is a specific customer. They've told you exactly what they want. That data feeds your CRM, your production queue, and your inventory forecasting.
  3. It signals premium. A 3D configurator is a brand moment. Customers notice which brands have one and which don't. In fashion, beauty, and furniture, it's table-stakes for premium positioning.

Configurator patterns we ship

Variant configurator (color / material / size)

The classic pattern. Pick from a set of options, see the product update live, add to cart. Works for footwear, fashion, small appliances, jewelry, watches, bags, cosmetics, sporting goods.

Typical: 3–5 weeks · $10K–$22K Example: Rawfit women's sneakers, 2 models, color and material swap, order capture.

Parametric configurator (made-to-measure)

Continuous-range options (dimensions, angles, proportions) rather than discrete choices. Used for custom furniture, cottages, industrial components, picture frames.

Typical: 5–8 weeks · $20K–$40K Application: custom furniture lines, modular storage systems, architectural cabinetry.

Assembly configurator

Multi-part configuration with compatibility rules. Choose a base model, then compatible attachments and accessories. Useful for industrial equipment, camera systems, bicycle builds.

Typical: 5–8 weeks · $20K–$45K Application: industrial equipment with modular attachments, pro-audio systems.

CPQ-integrated configurator (enterprise)

Full commerce-stack integration: PIM, ERP, pricing engine, dealer portal, order routing. For B2B sales where a configurator is the primary sales channel.

Typical: 10–16 weeks · $40K–$100K Application: B2B industrial sales, specialty vehicles, custom machinery.

Integrations we've done

We integrate with what you already run:

  • Cafe24 (Korean commerce). Custom storefront hand-off, inventory sync
  • Shopify / Shopify Plus. Storefront apps, Hydrogen-based commerce fronts
  • WooCommerce. Direct plugin integration
  • Medusa. Headless commerce
  • Custom backends. Node, Python, Rails, whatever you're running
  • CRMs. HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, custom
  • AR preview. Model-viewer and 8th Wall for mobile AR
  • Label and print services. We've handed off configured files directly to commercial-print vendors for packaging / labeling work

Tech stack

  • Rendering. Three.js / React Three Fiber as the default runtime; Verge3D where the client's design files are in Blender and the interaction logic benefits from Verge3D's puzzle system.
  • Materials and textures. GLTF with PBR materials, Draco compression for load weight, texture atlases for variant swaps.
  • UI layer. Next.js App Router, Tailwind for layout, Framer Motion for transitions; mobile-first responsive with touch-targeted controls.
  • State management. Zustand or Jotai for product-state; API integrations typed end-to-end with TypeScript; analytics events on every configuration change for funnel analysis.
  • Performance. We budget for 60 fps on a two-year-old Android mid-ranger; LCP under 2.5 s on 4G.

What a configurator project looks like (week by week)

A typical 6–10 week Configurator Studio Sprint:

Week 1. Kickoff. Scope lock. Asset audit (what do we have, what do we need). Moodboard. Week 2. 3D model build or CAD conversion. Brand-system application. First render tests. Week 3. First-pass configurator on staging. Ugly, but interactive. Client review. Week 4. Visual polish. Material and texture work. UI layer. Second client review. Week 5. Commerce integration. Order capture. CRM hand-off. Mobile tuning. Week 6. QA, performance tuning, analytics instrumentation. Week 7–8 (if applicable). Extended variants, additional products, AR preview, localization. Week 9–10 (buffer). Launch support, production deployment, post-launch tweaks.

Productized: Configurator Studio Sprint: $18,000, 4–6 weeks

If your product fits the "single-product variant configurator" pattern, we've packaged it as a fixed offer:

  • One hero product, up to four discrete variants (color, material, two other dimensions).
  • 3D model build (from drawings, CAD, or photography).
  • Configurator UI, mobile-responsive.
  • Cafe24 or Shopify integration.
  • Order form with email + CRM hand-off.
  • Launch deployment and 30-day support.

Fixed scope, fixed price. Anything outside that scope (more products, parametric logic, CPQ integration, enterprise PIM) moves to a custom engagement.

Before you start: a configurator project readiness checklist

A configurator project goes smoothly when you have:

  • One to three flagship products to configure, not a catalogue of 400.
  • Existing brand photography or renders we can match for visual continuity.
  • CAD, drawings, or high-resolution reference photos of the product.
  • A list of the variants you want. Even if they're rough. We help you refine the set.
  • A commerce platform in place (or a plan for one). We're designers and engineers, not Shopify setup consultants.
  • Analytics baseline. So you can measure conversion lift post-launch.
